Goldhouse Designs Skills Training Initiative (GHD Skills Training) is an Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based organization dedicated to empowering individuals through fashion design and creative skills development. The initiative is rooted in the success of Goldhouse Designs, a brand specializing in made-to-measure and ready-to-wear clothing for men, women, and children, as well as custom curtains, window treatments, and blinds.
Our collections combine contemporary fashion with the rich heritage of African and Ghanaian craftsmanship. Every piece is carefully handcrafted using premium fabrics, luxury trims, and exceptional attention to detail. We also create customized designs for weddings, cultural celebrations, corporate events, and other special occasions.
The vision behind Goldhouse Designs was inspired by the remarkable journey of our Founder and CEO, Giftlove Mensah. Unable to continue her formal education due to financial hardship, Giftlove began apprenticing under her grandaunt, a respected and highly skilled dressmaker. What began as a necessity soon became a lifelong passion. Through years of apprenticeship, formal education, and advanced professional training, she developed her expertise and built a successful career in fashion design.
Today, Giftlove is committed to giving others the opportunities she once sought. She is working toward establishing a fashion school in Edmonton that will equip aspiring designers with practical, industry-focused skills.
Goldhouse Designs Skills Training Initiative was established to train and empower youth and adults with employable skills in fashion design, garment production, tailoring, window treatments, and other creative trades. Our mission is to provide accessible, hands-on training that promotes entrepreneurship, employment, self-reliance, and economic empowerment.
Through mentorship, practical instruction, and community partnerships, GHD Skills Training aims to nurture creativity, preserve cultural craftsmanship, and develop the next generation of skilled designers and artisans who can contribute meaningfully to their communities and the fashion industry.

Training Sessions
We were honored to facilitate a hands-on tailoring workshop at the Black Women In Action Summer Camp, where students gained practical sewing and garment-making skills in a fun and engaging learning environment.
During the training, participants were introduced to essential tailoring tools and techniques. They learned how to take accurate body measurements, transfer measurements onto fabric, draft and cut patterns, and develop foundational sewing skills, including stitching, creating fullness, and attaching waistbands and zippers.
By the end of the program, each student successfully designed and sewed a beautifully tailored skirt, demonstrating confidence, creativity, and attention to detail. To complete their projects, the students also crafted matching neckpieces as accessories, adding a unique personal touch to their creations.
The workshop was a wonderful opportunity to inspire creativity, build practical skills, and empower the next generation of young designers. We are proud of every participant’s dedication and look forward to seeing their talents continue to flourish.
